1. Wear loose-fitting clothes. Tight clothes like bike shorts, panty hose and close-fitting jeans do not allow air to circulate around the vagina. Body hugging clothe can trap heat and moisture and create the most favorable environment for yeast organisms to grow.

2. Wear only undergarments composed of 100 percent cotton or other likely fibers. Such garments breathe and are less likely to trap moisture.

3. Do not continue in wet clothing any longer than necessary. After swimming, change into dry clothing in its place of sitting around in the wet bathing suit. Remove damp exercise gear as soon as possible.

4. Avoid using irritating soaps and deodorants or sprays in the vaginal area. Steer clear of deodorant tampons and douche products too. These products may cause a disturbance in the alkaline balance in the vagina and can lead to symptoms of a yeast infection.

5. Use good hygiene and toilet habits. Always clean from front to back after using the toilet to avoid spreading bacteria from the rectum into the vagina.

6. Completely dry the genitals after a shower or bath before getting dressed.

Precaution to avoid risk: Change the protection frequently during the menstrual period. Never leave tampons in for a long period of moment as they can harbor bacteria. Also change the sanitary pads or panty liners often to prevent a moist environment around the genitals. Do not wear panty liners each day. If the person is diabetic, monitor and regulate the blood sugar. High levels of sugar in the blood may increase the risk of yeast growth. Do not insert dry objects, like a not lubricated condom or penis, into the vagina. And do not engage in sexual intercourse multiple times every day. Stay away from hot tubs, whirlpool spas and bubble baths. Women who experience quite a few yeast infections a year may want to consult with their physician about certain preventive medicines or foods.
